V6A in Venice - Screening on a boat

V6A screened in Venice on “Il vaporetto dell’immaginario” for a unique experience right after sunset.

A Q&A with the director Ruggero Romano followed the screening.

In this inspiring and humanizing film by Ruggero Romano, we step into the shoes of the Vancouver DTES community members.

Designed to challenge expectations and dissolve the stigma projected onto homelessness, addiction and mental health, V6A is also an unexpected celebration of the resilience and beauty of the human spirit. In the search for truth and authenticity, the film explores human nature in its fight against the toughest, often human-made odds by questioning the definition of "Home".

Meet Ruggero

Ruggero Romano is an Italian film director, producer and show host based in Canada. After moving to Vancouver in 2016, he graduated from Vancouver Film School and devoted himself to filmmaking for social impact. While working in Vancouver as a dishwasher and salesman, Ruggero took part in a multitude of collaborations and produced documentaries with the Indigenous communities in British Columbia. When noticing the social inequality that shaped the city, he decided to amplify the voices of the homeless community in Downtown Eastside Vancouver, releasing his feature documentary "V6A" with the purpose to inspire locals and dissolve the stigma projected onto homelessness, addiction and mental health. Ruggero is currently producing and distributing films for social impact through his organization “Movies Move Us”.

He loves people, jazz, capoeira, and is always happy to support filmmakers in their journeys to tell meaningful stories. He also has a very sharp nose.

V6A - Heart of the City Festival - COVID Sensitive Film Screening

On Sunday (Nov. 1st), local community members came together to have dinner, watch V6A and engage in the post-screening Q&A at the Carnegie Community Center. In collaboration with the Heart of the City Festival, the event benefitted from careful planning in room capacity and engagement dynamics, practicing social distancing throughout the whole event.

Amidst a pandemic that casts loneliness and isolation, it is necessary to remind us of the communal space, where humans come together (even in the same room) taking all precautions necessary to respect health protocols and meaningfully interact together.
