We teamed up with the MENA Film Festival to offer a first-of-its-kind grant for a MENA filmmaker in Canada!

Join us as we cheer for grant recipient Daniel D. Negatu during the production of his film “Harem”.

Meet Daniel

Born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Daniel has been making experimental, documentary and narrative work for the past ten years and holds an MFA in film production from York University in Toronto where he received the graduate program thesis prize.

His winning film, Harem, will tell the story of a Kurdish visual artist trying to make a new life in Canada in the middle of a pandemic while also balancing the nostalgia for his home country and loved ones.

The film will premiere at the MENA Film Festival, November 2021.
